My first race!! I was hoping to complete the race in around an hour (ideally just under the 1 hour mark). My first mistake was to be truthful about my estimated run time. I put myself in the 56-1hr bracket and was in the third wave of 10000 people. There were so many extremely slow runners ahead of me - some were even walking after 2km! I should have tried to get to the front of the wave - I’m sure I ran twice the distance runing round everyone.

Despite this I ran the first 3km in exactly 15 mins and was at the 5km mark at 28 mins (some uphill in this part). This means I ran the second 5km in 27:45 (faster than the first section). I guess I could have saved around about 40 seconds if I wasn’t stuck behind people walking in the narrow stretches.

I really enjoyed the race, weather was sunny but not too hot. A great day!
