Morning swim April 6, 2009

Usual warm-up of 50m front crawl and 50m kick borad - 3 times.

Did 200 m fast crawl, 500 m steady and 100 m warm down.

Focused on push turns today - I must be saving 1-2 seconds a lap doing these properly. I felt a lot quicker today.

30 mins - pretty tough as I’d not been on the bike in a while.

back in the water today - slow to get going but felt good.

Drills

Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to my usual distance of 1 mile and put in a couple of 500m without stopping.

Another slow run April 1, 2009

I did another 5km 3 minutes slower than my pb. Now I really wish I’d made a bit more effort over the last 3 weeks (I didn’t train at all!). I feel as if I’m back to square one. I’m sure I’ll get my speed back again soon.

It was a killer. Work and holiday commitments have made it all too easy for me to find an excuse not to exercise. I’m pleased I went out running as it showed me that a short break in the exercise programme can make it so hard to get back on form.

I’m looking forward to getting on the bike now the clocks have gone forward and it’s light at convenient times of the day but I’m hoping my injured hand (fell off my snowboard) won’t hamper me with the swimming and biking. Only one way to find out!

My longest run! March 4, 2009

I really didn’t feel like doing any exercise yesterday, not for any good reason - I was just being lazy. My partner forced me to go as he wanted to run 10k in practise for the race in May. I said I’d go with him but stop at the 5km mark which conveniently loops back past the house.

When we got to that stage, I was feeling great. Breathing was relaxed and legs felt ok (a bit stiff but no pain). I carried on and we completed the full 10km in just under an hour. We were deliberately going at a steady 10 minute mile pace as we just wanted to see if we could get round and both of us were able to talk all the way. I’m pleased I was forced to do something - I shouldn’t be so lazy!

I managed to do 36 lengths (900m) of front crawl without stopping, my record to date. Did a total of 1600 m with some warm up and 50m sprints.

I decided to go for a run after I had just finished my evening meal. Despite waiting for half an hour, I was still a bit sluggish on the run. I am working away from home so got to enjoy the lovely sights of Oxford in the dark.
